Cold River Camp
a new Passive House in the Pioneer Valley

A rendering shows the proposed dining room and kitchen.

A rendering of one possible option for the Mountain Park residence shows high windows over the porch. We also explored whether top- lighting the private hall was worth the compromises in constructability and cost.

A forlorn home on a terrific site will be replaced by a new home built to Passive House standards.

Approx. SF: 1500 (plus a full - or partial?- basement)
Project Type: new construction
Standards/Certifications: Passive House (PHIUS 2018+ standard)
Project Timeline: expected to break ground in 2022
Project Story:
A family based in the Bay Area, with strong ties to the local community in Northfield, bought a condemned house with a dream of replacing it with a new house for the generations to come. The current iteration is designed to meet Passive House (PHIUS) standards. This project will re-build using the existing building's footprint while reaching for the highest energy targets. There will be enough roof for solar to achieve Net Zero Energy, PHIUS 2018+ Source Zero, and power an electric car.
